Dr. Bohmann is bohmann’s principal patent attorney and client adviser. He qualified as both a German and a European patent, trademark and design attorney. Prior to founding the firm in 2000, Dr. Bohmann worked as a patent attorney for a top five German IP firm. Dr. Bohmann received scientific training in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, chemistry and bioprocess and biochemical engineering. He successfully completed his Diplom (master’s) studies at the Technical University of Munich and his Ph.D. studies at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute of Applied Biochemistry at the University of Tsukuba in Tsukuba, Japan.
During his training as a patent attorney, he also worked for a London-based IP firm and clerked at the District Court of Düsseldorf for Judge Prof. Dr. Meier-Beck, now presiding judge on the German Federal Supreme Court (Bundesgerichtshof) handling IP cases.
Dr. Bohmann delivers regular lectures on intellectual property matters for the Santa Clara University Munich Summer School Program initiated by Prof. Donald Chisum. He also speaks frequently at the University of Pittsburgh, the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, the Chicago-Kent College of Law and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. Dr. Bohmann serves as Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo for the Bio IP Course at the Department of Medical Genome Sciences of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences.
A patent attorney trainee with a background in molecular biology and three paralegals comprise the rest of the bohmann team. In addition, a patent attorney having a background in electrical engineering, a patent attorney having a background in biochemistry, and a trademark attorney are working as independent contractors on behalf of the firm and following bohmann’s principles and established practices.
bohmann draws upon a broad international network of collaboration partners in more than one hundred and twenty countries. These partners are patent attorneys who are experts in the patent law of their respective jurisdictions. This network gives bohmann the flexibility to handle international cases without incurring unnecessary overhead costs.
Our attorneys are registered to practice before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the German Federal Supreme Court and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs). bohmann collaborates with lawyers at the main patent and trademark litigation courts in Germany (such as Düsseldorf, Mannheim and Munich).
